“At a recent concert, allegations surfaced claiming that Shubh was seen wearing a black hoodie featuring a map of Punjab with a message of freedom, and depicting Sikh men assassinating Indira Gandhi in the foreground. Here is his response to these allegations.”

Punjabi-Canadian rapper Shubhneet Singh, better known as Shubh, has once again captured attention, this time due to allegations surrounding a hoodie he wore, which some interpreted as mocking the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards. Responding to the controversy, Shubh has issued a statement, calling for an end to the dissemination of negativity and animosity. Via his Instagram stories, he clarified that during his live performance, various items, including clothing and jewelry, were thrown onto the stage by the audience. He explained that he couldn’t discern the content of the items thrown at him.

Expressing his unease, he conveyed, “No matter what I do, there will always be individuals who find fault with it. During my initial show in London, the audience tossed a significant amount of clothing, jewelry, and phones onto the stage. My primary purpose was to perform, not to inspect the items thrown at me or their content. Our team has invested substantial effort over the past few months to deliver a performance for all of you. PLEASE CEASE SPREADING HATE AND NEGATIVITY.”

Earlier, there were reports suggesting that Shubh had been accused of glorifying the individuals responsible for the assassination of Indira Gandhi during a performance in London. Subsequently, Kangana Ranaut criticized Shubh for his alleged actions. She remarked, “Commending the reprehensible act of killing an elderly woman by those she entrusted to safeguard her. When individuals are entrusted with the duty of protection but exploit that trust and faith, using the same tools to harm those they were meant to safeguard, it reflects not bravery but rather a disgraceful act of cowardice.”

“There is no reason to take pride in such a cowardly assault on an elderly lady who was defenseless and unaware, a lady who was the elected leader of a democracy. Shubham ji, there is nothing here to celebrate. Shame!!!” the actress added.

The controversy surrounds Shubh’s attire at a concert, where he allegedly wore a black hoodie featuring an image of the map of Punjab and a depiction of Sikh men assassinating Indira Gandhi. This choice of clothing triggered outrage and a significant controversy, with photos and videos from the London concert rapidly spreading on social media. A pro-Khalistani Twitter account, SherePanjabUK, posted the image and video, accompanied by a caption that read, “Panjabi Artist Shubh holding a hoodie with an illustration depicting Indian PM Indira Gandhi (also known as Maimuna Begum) being greeted by Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh #NeverForget84.” This incident has reignited discussions about the sensitive historical events related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
